An der Medizinischen Universität Wien ist am Klinischen Institut für Pathologie mit der Kennzahl: 15431/19, voraussichtlich ab 2. September 2019 eine Stelle mit einem Beschäftigungsausmaß von 40 Wochenstunden mit einer Assistentin / einem Assistenten (postgraduate) zu besetzen.

Das monatliche Mindestentgelt für diese Verwendung beträgt derzeit Euro 2.864,50 brutto (14x jährlich) und kann sich eventuell auf Basis der kollektivvertraglichen Vorschriften durch die Anrechnung tätigkeitsspezifischer Vorerfahrungen sowie sonstige mit den Besonderheiten des Arbeitsplatzes verbundene Entgeltsbestandteile erhöhen.

Anstellungserfordernisse: Abgeschlossenes (Diplom) Studium der Informatik, Medizinischen Informatik, Teilnahme am PhD-Programm der Medizinischen Universität Wien. Bereitschaft zur Mitwirkung in Forschung und Lehre. Die fremdenrechtlichen Anstellungserfordernisse bei Nicht-EU-BürgerInnen müssen gewährleistet sein.

Gewünschte Zusatzqualifikationen: We seek to fill the position of a Bioinformatician/Data Scientist (postgraduate) at the Department of Pathology at the Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Vienna) Vienna (https://www.meduniwien.ac.at/hp/pathologie/) to work at the interface between basic and translational research and diagnostic applications. She/He will support the Renal Research Group headed by Professor KAIN working on mechanisms of autoimmunity (https://www.relent.eu/the-team/consortium/medical-university-of-vienna/) and will contribute to several existing projects and drive or participate in the planning of new ones. The work will include data mining and integration, data processing and interpretation and statistical analysis. Although the successful candidate will become a key member of the group, she/he will be offered the opportunity to develop their own research interest and will join a rapidly enlarging community of bioinformaticians at MedUni Wien in a highly collaborative environment.

As member of one of the biggest academic diagnostic Pathology Departments in Europe, the candidate is also expected to develop bioinformatics tools for the routine molecular pathology laboratory that is currently extending its facilities and help the members of the laboratory with the development of diagnostic panels as well as the analysis of results from diagnostic specimen, such as database and informatics work (especially those related to NGS data).

Preferred Background, Skills and Experience:

  • Master of equivalent in Bioinformatics, Biomedicine or similar including demonstrated strong statistical analysis and programming components;

  • Highly self-motivated with strong analytical and problem-solving ability, excellent presentation, verbal, written & communications skills;

  • Proven abilities in R, bioinformatics experience with Bioconductor, samtools, GATK, and other widely used software;

  • Experience in analysis and interpretation of microarray and NGS data: WGS, Exome-seq, RNA-seq, ChIP-seq;

  • Proven track record of working with high performance computing clusters, bioinformatic analysis pipelines and version control systems;

  • Previous use of variant detection and annotation software;

  • Good knowledge of Linux command line and BASH scripting;

  • Mastery of another programming language, e.g. Python.

Considered a big plus:

  • Track record in analysis of proteomics data;

  • Experience in image analysis.
