An der Medizinischen Universität Wien ist an der Universitätsklinik für Chirurgie / Klinische Abteilung für Kinderchirurgie mit der Kennzahl: 1359/20, voraussichtlich ab 15. April 2020 eine Stelle mit einem Beschäftigungsausmaß von 40 Wochenstunden mit einer Assistentin / einem Assistenten (postdoc) zu besetzen.
Das monatliche Mindestentgelt für diese Verwendung beträgt derzeit Euro 3.889,-- brutto (14x jährlich) und kann sich eventuell auf Basis der kollektivvertraglichen Vorschriften durch die Anrechnung tätigkeitsspezifischer Vorerfahrungen sowie sonstige mit den Besonderheiten des Arbeitsplatzes verbundene Entgeltsbestandteile erhöhen.

POSTDOC POSITION
The Department of Pediatric Surgery of the Medical University Vienna (head of the department Prof. Martin Metzelder), and the St. Anna Children´s Cancer Research Institute (CCRI) are recruiting a Project Scientist (postdoc) to pursue an ambitious interdisciplinary research project on mechanisms and in vitro modelling of lung metastases in pediatric solid tumors. Salary and terms of employment are according to the MedUni Vienna collective contract (minimum Euro 3.889,--/14x per year). This position offers a unique opportunity to work at the interface of translational and basic laboratory research within a multidisciplinary competence center for pediatric oncology and has a direct impact on the development of new cancer therapies.
Metastasis is the leading cause of death in cancer patients and the lung is among the most frequent sites of growth of metastatic masses. The project strives to understand the mechanisms of organ preference and homing of metastatic tumor cells from pediatric bone and soft tissue malignancies, and to use this knowledge to model lung metastases in vitro for high throughput drug screening. To achieve this goal, the Department of Pediatric Surgery of the Medical University and the CCRI have joined forces and established a collaborative research program that shall be driven by the successful postdoc applicant.
As a postdoc, you will
Be employed by the Medical University of Vienna.
Work at and be part of the Molecular Biology of Solid Tumors group led by Prof. Heinrich Kovar at CCRI (https://science.ccri.at/research/research-areas/solid-tumours/molecular-biology-of-solid-tumours/).
Serve an important bridge function between the two collaborating institutions.
Apply multiple cell biology, molecular biology, and omics methods including single cell sequencing, organoid, bioprinting and drug screening technologies.
Bring in your own ideas and expertise to make the project your own.
Interpret, present, and discuss your results with biologists and clinical researchers locally and internationally.
Independently monitor the literature and community resources to keep abreast with latest developments and to identify information, data, and methods to integrate in your own work.
Write papers, visit conferences, review papers, apply for fellowships, and contribute to grants.
Contribute to the supervision of junior group members.
Your qualification
PhD in a relevant life sciences subject (molecular biology, genomics, pharmacy, etc.).
Previous postdoctoral experience required.
At least two first-author publications in reputable journals.
Good knowledge of and prior experience in cancer biology and/or developmental biology.
Extensive experience with state-of-the-art cell culture, molecular biology and omics technologies;
Desirable: Experience with bulk and/or single cell genomic/epigenomic technologies.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English (German not required).

The present collaborative project aims at extending these concepts to other malignant entities in the focus of the Department of Pediatric Surgery.
