Interventions for congenital heart defects October 20-21, 2023
The team led by Prof. Dr. Ina Michel-Behnke, Dr. Erwin Kitzmüller and Dr. Matthias Beichl welcomed junior cardiologists to Vienna on October 20/21, 2023 for the 10th anniversary of the "Junior Training - Interventions in Congenital Heart Defects".
26 colleagues had travelled to the Children's Heart Centre Vienna / Department of Paediatric Cardiology of the University Children's Hospital for Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine to learn techniques of minimally invasive treatment of heart defects from renowned speakers from Austria, Germany and Switzerland.
In hands-on trainings, the skills of closure of heart defects were practiced in a simulation suite, valvular latencies, stenting of vascular stenosis and even implantation of heart valves on the model, with 3D models allowing the authentic execution of the intervention under illumination in the cardiac catheter laboratory. The "seniors' dedicated themselves to knowledge transfer, which was rewarded by the participants with an excellent evaluation.
The postgraduate training is an integral part of the training of junior scientists at the Department of Paediatric Cardiology in Vienna, but has also been included in the curriculum for future colleagues working in catheter intervention. The symposium is also scheduled for next year.
