Outpatient visit

Does your child have an appointment in our cardiac outpatient clinic?

Registration

What is required? We ask for a referral slip from your pediatrician, family doctor or school doctor. As we want to take enough time for all patients, there may be waiting times despite the fixed appointments. Critically ill children and newborn babies naturally have priority. A small play area is available to bridge the waiting time. To be on the safe side, please take something to drink and eat for your child in case it takes longer.

Waiting zone

Here the children can read a book or play in our play corner. We have also put up some boards with drawings and information about various heart defects on which you are welcome to inform yourself.

Examination procedure

After registering at the counter, we go briefly to the waiting area. In the ECG room, one of our nurses writes the ECG, measures the blood pressure and oxygen saturation and the children are weighed and their height measured. This is followed by a heart ultrasound and a medical examination. The doctors decide during the examination whether an X-ray or a blood sample is necessary. For most patients, blood can be taken by finger prick; venipuncture is rarely necessary.

Report of findings

After each examination, the results are summarized in a doctor's letter that is sent to the patient. This means that no information is lost and the family doctor or pediatrician is also well informed about the child's current condition.

Inspection dates

At the end of the examination, the doctor will suggest an appointment for the next check-up if necessary. You will receive this appointment either immediately at the desk of the cardiac outpatient clinic or you can arrange it yourself later by telephone. In this case, please remember to contact us in good time. If an inpatient admission for an operation or cardiac catheterization is planned, patients will receive a written notification.
