Cardiac ultrasound allows us to visualize the moving heart. It helps us to diagnose congenital heart defects, assess the heart muscle and much more. The examination is not painful and children do not need to be fasting.
A cardiac echo can be performed on any child, regardless of age or size. The anatomical structures of the heart are visualized in a 2-dimensional plane. It is also possible to visualize the blood flow in the heart using colour Doppler. Information is obtained about anatomical changes, heart valve changes, "holes" in the heart and diseases of the heart muscle.
An important prerequisite for an optimal examination is a satisfied, calm child. Sometimes it makes sense to examine babies during or after feeding.
