Strengthening Patient Safety: Skills for Safe and High-Quality Care
Safe care is not a coincidence, but the result of knowledge, system understanding, and deliberate action. The continuing education program “Patient Safety in Healthcare – Academic Expert” at the Medical University of Vienna qualifies professionals to improve patient safety sustainably and to actively advance it.
The program provides a sound understanding of the healthcare system, its stakeholders, and interfaces. Students learn to identify risks, analyze processes, and implement quality assurance measures. The focus is on key topics such as safety culture, evidence-based practice, risk management, ethics, law, as well as communication and leadership.
The aim is to enable professionals in the health and social sectors to initiate change processes and help shape a culture of safety. Graduates are able to understand complex relationships in healthcare, think interdisciplinarily, and make evidence-based decisions — always with the goal of making care safer for patients.
Patient safety emerges where professional expertise meets reflection and where responsibility is actively assumed in everyday work.
With this continuing education program, we want to support people in healthcare in consciously helping to shape safety. Our goal is to empower professionals who question processes, recognize risks, and implement concrete improvements within their own sphere of influence.
Patient safety requires attention, collaboration, and the courage to initiate change. This is exactly where this program comes in: practical, interdisciplinary, and with a clear focus on the demands of everyday professional life.
