Qualification profile

The MC SUD provides an in-depth, scientifically and methodologically high-quality education oriented towards lasting and evidence-based knowledge, which qualifies graduates for further qualification and employment and subsequently makes them internationally competitive after successful completion of the extraordinary master degree:

Successful graduates of MC SUD will be empowered to:

- Name and understand substance use disorders and foundations of a multiprofessional and interdisciplinary treatment approach.

- Know and recognize pharmacological and neurobiological bases of abused substances and their effects on their brain and other organs.

- To build knowledge on psychiatric clinical manifestations in connection with substance use disorders, on treatment measures of dangerous acute intoxication and in other emergency situations in a differentiated way. Furthermore, psychotherapeutic measures and other brief interventions will be taught.

- To pay attention to special aspects of conversation and communication with vulnerable or marginalized groups.

- To be able to give an overview of prevention measures and to be able to recommend, know and explain common public health and legally significant issues in connection with substance use disorders.

- To be able to describe the symptomatology and treatment of SUD based on current scientific evidence.

- To know the basics of addictive behavior in childhood and adolescence.

- Finally, a module on knowledge acquisition will introduce graduates to scientific work in the context of substance use and SUD.

 

The MC SUD is therefore intended to address the following target groups:

  • Persons working in addiction prevention
  • Persons working in addiction prevention and/or other psychosocial fields concerned with the reduction of individual and societal harm caused by addictive disorders, in particular:

- Physicians, e.g. also physicians with substitution authorization.

- neuroscientists, psychologists, psychotherapists

- Lawyers

- Pharmacists, biologists, pharmacists

- School psychologists, school physicians

- Pedagogues or other professionals who advise, support or treat children and adolescents who are directly or indirectly affected by SUD or belong to SUD risk groups

- such as pedagogues in schools or special educational institutions, persons who, for example in family or social counseling institutions, are involved in the counseling or care of children and adolescents who are directly or indirectly affected by or at risk for SUD.
