Sebastian Schoppmann appointed to the Ministry of Health's Oncology Advisory Board

(Vienna, 27 August 2021) Sebastian Schoppmann from the Department of General Surgery (Division of Abdominal Surgery) of the Medical University of Vienna has been appointed to the Oncology Advisory Board of the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection for the third term of office, which runs from 2021 until 2025.

Schoppmann will lend his experience to tackling the extensive challenges in the field of cancer prevention and cancer care in Austria. The Oncology Advisory Board is established at the Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection.  Its task is to advise the Federal Minister for Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection on all questions relating to cancer prevention, early detection and the optimisation of care for cancer patients. The advisory board is composed of a multi-professional, interdisciplinary group of people plus at least one patient representative.

About Sebastian Schoppmann
Sebastian Schoppmann is a surgeon at the Medical University of Vienna's Department of General Surgery. There he heads up the working group for gastro-oesophageal surgery as well as the surgical functional diagnostics unit. He is also head of the Gastroesophageal Tumour Unit (CCC-GET) at the Comprehensive Cancer Center (CCC) Vienna of MedUni Vienna and Vienna General Hospital. Schoppmann is President of the Austrian Society for Minimally Invasive Surgery and has authored more than 240 specialist articles.
