Alexander Micko receives David L. Kleinberg Prize

(Vienna, 09 March 2021) Alexander Micko, MedUni Vienna neurosurgeon, has been awarded the David L. Kleinberg Prize by the international Pituitary Society. The prize is awarded on an annual basis to early-career researchers specialising in pathologies in the region of the pituitary gland. The prize is being awarded for the best peer-reviewed manuscript of 2020.

Alexander Micko's prize-winning paper dealt with the optimisation of MRI datasets for use as intraoperative guidance to allow more extensive resection of pituitary gland adenomas while conserving the surrounding tissue.
The study arose from a collaboration between the Department of Neurosurgery and the Division of Neuroradiology and Musculoskeletal Radiology (Department of Biomedical Imaging and Image-guided Therapy). The paper was published in the journal "Pituitary" in March 2020.

About Alexander Micko
Alexander Micko is qualified as a professor and is a consultant neurosurgeon (secondary specialisation intensive care medicine) at MedUni Vienna's Department of Neurosurgery. He has obtained several research grants during the course of his career.
