With great sadness we inform you that em. o. Professor Hans-Peter Bantleon passed away at the age of 70. He was emeritus Professor and former Chairman of the Orthodontic Department at the University Clinic of Dentistry, Medical University of Vienna over 24 years.
Prof. Bantleon graduated as MD from the Karl-Franzens-University Graz in 1979. From 1979 to 1991 he was trained as an orthodontist by Prof. Droschl (Graz), Prof. Burstone (Connecticut) and Prof. Melson (Aarhus). He was appointed as full professor for orthodontics in 1992. From 1996 to 2014 he was President of the Austrian Society for Orthodontics and Vice President since 2014. From 1997 to 2004 he was Deputy Head of the University Clinic of Dentistry, Medical University of Vienna. He was President of the European Orthodontic Society in 2005-2006. In 2016 the Vice Chancellor of Austria presented him with the Austrian Cross of Honour for Science and Art, 1st Class. Also the famous annual 'International Vienna Orthodontic Symposium' will forever be connected with his spirit.
Prof. Bantleon was a member of the World Federation of Orthodontists, American Orthodontic Society, European Orthodontic Society, The Angle Society of Europe, German Society for Orthodontics, Austrian Society for Orthodontics and Austrian Society for Dentistry, Oral Medicine and Orthodontics.
He was an expert for orthodontic biomechanics and always willing to share his knowledge with all of us.
We will remember him as a great orthodontist, a passionate teacher and a good friend.
