  • The investigation is free of charge.
  • You do not need to file a police report beforehand.
  • We are impartial and treat everyone equally.

Important!

  • Your decision about whether to file a police report does not matter.
  • All evidence and reports are kept on file for 10 years.
  • Our investigations can be used as evidence in court.

We do not treat injuries, but we will assist you if needed.

If you have injuries that require treatment, please see a doctor (e.g. general practitioner) or go to a hospital; if there is an immediate danger, call an ambulance.

If you are unsure, you can still contact us by phone. Together, we will determine when and where an examination is possible and appropriate.

Who can contact us?

  • The affected persons themselves
  • Family members or trusted individuals
  • Doctors and medical professionals
  • The police or investigative authorities
  • Victim protection agencies

Reasons to contact us:

  • Domestic violence or family violence
  • Sexual violence
  • Abuse (including of children)
  • Suspected use of knockout drugs

Important!

All of our doctors are bound by confidentiality. With regard to the duty to report, we follow the same laws as medical practices and hospitals.

How does the examination work?

  1. Call before your visit:
    We´ll discuss the following with you over the phone:
    • Urgency of the examination.
    • Location of the examination.
  2. Location of the examination:
    • For injuries requiring treatment or cases of sexual violence: at a hospital
    • For other injuries: at our examination center (Zimmermannplatz 1, 1090 Vienna)
  3. During the examination:
    With your consent, we will:
    • document all fresh and older injuries
    • take photos of the injuries
    • collect evidence, e.g., related to sexual assault

If you have been a victim of sexual violence:

  • The medical examination almost always takes place at a hospital. Our doctors will be there to provide support (for documentation and evidence collection).

If the incident occurred less than 72 hours ago:

  • Do not change your clothes. Bring the clothes, toiletries, and textiles that you were wearing or using. IMPORTANT: Bring them in a paper bag!
  • Do not wash yourself (no hand washing, showering, or bathing).
  • Do not use the restroom, avoid eating, drinking, or smoking.
  • If you believe you have been given a knockout drug, we can take blood and urine samples within the first 72 hours to detect it.
  • You can also contact us even if more than 72 hours have passed. We will then work with you to determine whether an examination is warranted.
