Privacy Policy in Accordance with the General Data Protection Regulation: Cancer Research Run

The protection of your personal data is a matter of particular importance to the Medical University of Vienna (MedUni Vienna).

The purpose of this privacy policy is to inform you about the fundamental aspects of data processing in connection with the Cancer Research Run.

Data processing

We process your personal data, which you are required to provide when registering for the Cancer Research Run or when subscribing to the newsletter via the online form (www.krebsforschungslauf.at), namely:

• Identity details (e.g. name, date of birth)
• Contact details (e.g. address, email address)   

are processed for the purpose of administering registration for the Cancer Research Run (race numbers and any other necessary information will be sent by post). When you subscribe to the newsletter, your data is processed for the purpose of sending you information about the Cancer Research Run and medical research.

On the day of the run, photographers from MedUni Vienna will take photographs in public spaces, which may be used for promotional purposes in digital or printed form – including in print media, on television and via all other distribution channels, as well as on the internet (e.g. the website and social media channels).

Data processing is carried out in accordance with the relevant legal provisions (Article 6(1) of the GDPR), namely on the following legal grounds:

• Consent (point (a)) in relation to the newsletter,
• Performance of a contract (point (b)) regarding registration for the Cancer Research Run,
• Legitimate interest (point (f)) in relation to MedUni Vienna’s marketing purposes.

You must provide this information, as otherwise we would be unable to send you post or email. You may withdraw your consent to receive the newsletter at any time without giving a reason; in this case, please contact krebsforschungslauf@meduniwien.ac.at

Your data will be stored in the newsletter database until you withdraw your consent. Image data will be stored for one year, until the next cancer research run. Registration data will be stored for one year so that we can deal with any enquiries or complaints, particularly regarding the donation made.    

Your data will not be passed on or transferred to third parties outside MedUni Vienna.

1. Your rights

You are generally entitled to the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection.

If you believe that the processing of your data contravenes data protection law or that your data protection rights have otherwise been infringed, you may lodge a complaint with the supervisory authority (Austrian Data Protection Authority, https://www.dsb.gv.at/).
