Anyone wishing to take part in the anniversary run on 10 October can register via the online form. In 2026, you’ll also have the chance to take part via a Distant Run and run along your favourite route – the main thing is that you join in: On Saturday, 10 October 2026, between 10 am and 2 pm.
The 2026 Cancer Research Running T-shirt
This year’s official T-shirt for the 2026 Cancer Research Run features a new design to mark the event’s 20th anniversary. The T-shirt is available now in sizes XS, S, M, L and XL, priced at 26 euros each, from the MedUni Shop at University Hospital Vienna (AKH). All proceeds will be donated to cancer research.
Working together for cancer research
4,000 participants and numerous companies supported the 19th Cancer Research Run. Thanks to your support, we are delighted to announce that we have raised a total of €275,000!
We would like to thank everyone for the thousands of kilometres covered, our long-standing sponsors and partners, the many running teams, and the significant contribution to medical progress. As always, 100 per cent of the donations raised this year will go towards research projects run by the Cancer Research Initiative at MedUni Vienna.

Challenge completed
The aim of this year’s Cancer Research Run was to complete 30,000 laps. Thanks to your support, we not only achieved this target but exceeded it! Together with the Distant Run (equivalent to 1,636 laps), a total of 46,239 laps were completed on 4 October. Our sponsors – Boehringer Ingelheim, Roche, Kuehne+Nagel and Amgen – are therefore adding an extra 17,500 euros! Donations from companies are still coming in. The final total will be confirmed at the end of October. We’ll of course keep you up to date!
Lots of laps in the Distant Run too
It wasn’t just on the Altes AKH university campus that people ran for a good cause on 4 October; participants in the Distant Run were also active for a whole week. Many laced up their running shoes, no matter where they happened to be. As a result, kilometres were clocked up not only in Austria but worldwide – for example, by Sophia from Amgen (pictured), who ran her laps in Portugal.
Research moves us! Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow.
Tomorrow begins with today’s research.
Maria Sibilia and her team are working to gain a better understanding of cancer and to develop new treatments. This requires innovative ideas, young researchers and the support of many people.
Because every contribution helps to lay the foundations for tomorrow’s progress.
Every step advances research. Together we go further. ⬇️

On the trail of tumour stem cells
In Austria, around 600 adults and 50 children are diagnosed with malignant brain tumours every year. Thanks to molecular diagnostics, these tumours can be precisely characterised.
Daniela Lötsch-Gojo from the Department of Neurosurgery at MedUni Vienna specialises in aggressive brain tumours. In a new post on our DER STANDARD research blog, she talks about her research.
100% research
One hundred per cent of the funds raised through the Cancer Research Run go towards research projects run by the Cancer Research Initiative, which has already launched numerous projects since 2005.
In early May 2022, research grants were once again awarded to young scientists at MedUni Vienna. A total of 60 research proposals were submitted, from which the jury selected fourteen promising projects.
The Cancer Research Run is part of the ‘Wienläuft’ running initiative
‘Wienläuft’ aims to give as many people as possible the opportunity to stay active through running all year round, and therefore, in collaboration with event organisers, offers a comprehensive range of running and Nordic walking events.
Wienläuft also organises free running and Nordic walking meet-ups.
