(Vienna, 12-05-2023) The Gerhard Domagk Foundation has awarded the Gerhard Domagk Prize to Ines Garces de los Fayos Alonso of the Department of Pathology at MedUni Vienna for her outstanding research into ALCL signaling pathways.

Since 1963, the Gerhard Domagk Cancer Research Foundation, announces the Gerhard Domagk Award in cooperation with the Universitätsgesellschaft der Westfälischen Wilhelms-Universität. The Gerhard Domagk Foundation, established by the Nobel prize winner Gerhard-Domagk, aims to promote research into the fight against cancer. The ceremony took place in the Gerhard Domagk Institute of Pathology at the University Hospital of Münster.

This year the Gerhard Domagk Foundation recognized the scientific achievements of Ines Garces de los Fayos Alonso for her research into novel biomarkers in Anaplastic Larger Cell Lymphoma (ALCL). ALCL is an aggressive non-Hodgkin T-cell Lymphoma that mainly affects children and young adults, and is characterised by a high relapse rate and resistance to treatment. In the research group of Lukas Kenner, Ines Garces de los Fayos Alonso discovered alternative biomarkers that could prove promising for novel therapeutic approaches.
