The Department of Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapy provides a service to support all transplantation and transfusion procedures carried out by the Medical University of Vienna's departments in Vienna General Hospital and is also the reference institution for immunohematology for the whole of Austria. The department carries out all the immunohematological analyses for transfusion and transplantation.
In addition to their own specific tasks, the department's staff are also available to offer clinical and technical advice. The individual areas are also actively involved in teaching and research. The department trains doctors specializing in blood group serology and transfusion medicine.
