Language Proficiency

  • Erasmus study stay (SMS): The required level of language proficiency is at least German B1*.
    Applicants for a study stay are required to provide corresponding proof during the application process. The issuing date of the confirmation shouldn't date back longer than 3 years (in case of school graduation certificates not longer than 5 years).                              
    Please note that all lectures and examinations are held in German (international students may use a standard, i.e. non-medical dictionary during exams). A command of German at least at B1 level is also required for clinical rotations.
  • ERASMUS traineeship (SMT): In case of traineeships, the hosting departement / clinic determines their prerequisites regarding language proficiency. Applicants have to enquire with the hosting department / clinic / institute directly.
  • Cooperations: For stays within the framework of cooperations, proficiency in English is required.

Language courses

German and other language courses are offered e.g. by the language center at University of Vienna  (Sprachenzentrum der Universität Wien , see below). If applicable, please contact the International Office / Erasmus officer at your home university regarding a refund of costs.
