(Vienna, 28 February 2022) The Medical University of Vienna condemns the Russian aggression against Ukraine, which is contrary to international law, and supports the Russian scientists and members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, who have made a courageous public statement against the military invasion in Ukraine started by their country. Our thoughts are with the citizens of Ukraine and we share with the Austrian Academy of Sciences the conviction that "science, especially in times of conflict, can contribute to peace, stability and peaceful coexistence between people and societies". We consider an international exchange of scientists, even under the most difficult conditions, as an important foundation for peace in Europe.
