Admission Requirements

Requirements

(1) Prerequisite for admission to the university course is proof of:
(a) a completed Bachelor's degree of at least 180 ECTS (or a degree of at least the same higher educational level at a recognised domestic or foreign post-secondary educational institution) in one of the following disciplines:

  •     Medicine
  •     Psychology
  •     Psychotherapy
  •     social work
  •     Pedagogy
  •     Philosophy
  •     Music Therapy
  •     Journalism and Communication Studies

and
(b) several years of relevant professional experience (at least two years) in one or more of the following fields:

  •     Medicine
  •     Psychology
  •     Psychotherapy
  •     social work
  •     Education
  •     Philosophy
  •     Music Therapy
  •     Journalism and communication studies

Relevant" is understood to mean professional activities in which personal communication and interaction with people in the course of care, guidance, personal or professional development, counselling or care are the main focus
and
c) successful completion of a psychotherapeutic preparatory course

and
d) acceptance as a training candidate for specialist psychotherapy training in accordance with the requirements of the current PthG by one of the cooperation partners of MedUni Vienna named under § 3; this implies in any case that the 24th year of age has been reached.

(2) Applicants must prove that they have the necessary knowledge of the German language at level C1 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for the successful continuation of their studies, either by means of internationally recognised language certificates/diplomas or diplomas (e.g. school-leaving certificate based on teaching in this language, completion of a course of study in the language of instruction concerned) or in the context of an examination by the academic course management. Proof may be waived if the language of instruction is the first language of the applicant.

(3) Applicants must prove that they have the necessary knowledge of the English language at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages for the successful continuation of their studies, either by means of internationally recognised language certificates/diplomas or diplomas (e.g. school-leaving certificate based on teaching in this language, completion of a course of study in the language of instruction concerned) or within the framework of an examination by the academic course management. Proof may be waived if the language of instruction is the first language of the applicant.

(4) Furthermore, computer skills are required which enable the unproblematic use of a teaching and learning platform as well as the use of literature databases.

(5) A letter of application and a curriculum vitae shall be enclosed with the application for admission.

(6) The academic course director shall check the suitability of the applicants on the basis of the documents submitted and, if necessary, a personal interview.

(7) Admission is only possible before the start of the university course. The academic course director shall determine the maximum number of participants per university course, taking into account the available study places according to pedagogical and organisational aspects and in accordance with the budget plan.

(8) Exceptional cases for admission after the start of the university course may only be approved by the curriculum director upon proposal of the academic course director, provided that the completion of equivalent teaching and learning contents can be proven.

(9) Pursuant to section 70 subsection 1 in conjunction with section 51 subsection 2 line 22 UG, participants shall apply for admission to the university course as extraordinary students. The Rectorate shall decide on the admission of the course participants on the basis of the proposal of the academic course management in accordance with the available study places and the qualifications of the applicants.
