Financing your PhD study

The admission to the doctorate does not mean that your PhD study is also fully funded, because the resources of the project to which you are applying to determine the amount of funds available for financing. Therefore, we encourage you to get yourself well informed about your financing options before the start of your doctorate. 

 If you sign your contract as a PhD student with MedUni Vienna, you are employed as a scientific employee and are remunerated in accordance with the collective agreement for academic university staff (Level B1 equal. to 30 hours per week). Projects funded by the FWF have their own funding regulations. Here you can find more detailed information from the FWF on salary tables. Your supervisor can give you more detailed information about your salary and the duration of funding when an agreement was made. Health insurance and pension

Due to your employment in Austria, you are autmaticly covered with a health insurance and pension.  Austria has a good and safe health system to which you have full access with your e-card. There is also the option to co-insure your partner and children if necessairy.

In the event that there is no employment, it is your own responsibility to make sure that you are covered by a health insurance.
