Pollen forecast for the 19th run for cancer research on 4th October 2025

On 4th October 2025 it will be that time again: the 19th run for cancer research will take place on the Altes AKH university campus of MedUni Vienna.

The Pollen Service Vienna of the MedUni Vienna offers all pollen allergy sufferers and interested parties information about the current pollination situation.

Autumnal impressions from the course of the cancer research run

Pollen forecast for the time of the cancer research run

Autumn has arrived - here are a few impressions of the Old AKH.

Fungal spores are still in the air, otherwise a green light for pollen allergy sufferers!

Autumn has arrived and you can now see this also in the air samples. The air will be allergy-friendly, as pollen concentrations were already showing a strong downward trend in the last weeks. Pollen is only sporadically in the air (e.g mugwort or ragweed). The weeds are fading and long-distance transport of pollen now hardly plays a role. In addition, the weather is decreasing the pollen concentratins as well with significantly lower temperatures than in recent weeks.

Weed areas in the old AKH: they can be found in some courtyards. However, the weeds have already faded.

The pollination period of the weeds is almost over. There are weed areas along the running course. However, the flower of mugwort has already faded everywhere.

Fungal spores are most commonly found in the air samples. These are mainly spores of Alternaria, Epicoccum and Cladosporium. In the fall, spore concentrations typically remain relevant for a longer time.

Allergic symptoms can - depending on the type of reaction - either disappear suddenly or last longer into the autumn season.

The pollination period of trees is long over. At most you will find seeds (like the horse chestnut on the right).

Our tip: Drink enough water to moisten the mucous membranes.

The team of the Pollen Service Vienna at MedUni Vienna recommends having the medication relevant to you ready and wish you a pleasant and successful run!
