Research interests
Gülen is Consultant in Fetal Medicine and Head of Fetal Medicine. Additionally, she is also a Lead for the Fetal Echocardiography Clinic. Therefore a major area of interest is fetal and maternal cardiac assessment.
The research group Fetal Echocardiography is dedicated to both clinical and scientific inquiries related to the fetal heart, starting from the first trimester and extending to the determination of the optimal timing for delivery. Special emphasis is placed on the overall condition of the fetus, incorporating accompanying findings, genetic disorders, and associated congenital anomalies.
Additionally, the group focuses on the investigation and research of fetal heart function and the cardiovascular interactions between mother and fetus. Another central focus is on maternal cardiac function in the presence of pre-existing maternal heart defects and their impact on the unborn child.
Further research areas include:
- Evaluation of fetal cardiac function in twin pregnancies.
- Scientific studies on fetal heart defects aimed at developing new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.
In addition another major area of interest are multifetal pregnancies and their complications.
She is currently collaborating with international research groups and is building a biobank for multiple pregnancies.
