Head: Thomas Schlöglhofer
Research Area: The interdisciplinary research group of Dr. Schlöglhofer focuses on innovative technologies and research approaches in the field of mechanical circulatory support systems (MCS). The goal is to enhance the safety, efficiency, and long-term compatibility of cardiac support systems such as left ventricular assist devices (LVAD) and Impella systems using state-of-the-art methods from engineering, medicine, and computer science.

Research interests
My main focus is to understand the dynamics between the human heart and Left Ventricular Assist Devices, emphasizing the improvement of this life-saving technology by contributing to the safety, better performance, fewer adverse events, and the fundamental leitmotif of mechanical cardiac support: the well-being of patients with severe heart failure.
Techniques, methods & infrastructure
Data analysis of key device parameters, assessing patient outcomes through an exhaustive analysis of clinical markers, imaging data, and device performance, using high-level programming languages, interactive platforms for numerical computing and visualization, as well as statistical tools, machine learning algorithms and clinical interaction with patients. In addition, my approach includes the validation of clinical hypotheses through in vitro experiments, simulating conditions and possible scenarios in order to predict patient–device interactions.
