Research interests

I am a historian specializing in the history of medicine, environmental history, and urban history with a geographical focus on Central and Eastern Europe and Eurasia. I am currently finishing a book “Germs of Change: Public Health and Environment in Imperial Moscow” and working on a new project on the transnational history of tick-borne disease, with a focus on tick-borne encephalitis in Austria and the Soviet Union. My specific research interests include history of modern public health, hygiene, sanitation and urban sanitary infrastructure, history of bacteriology, virology and parasitology, environmental health, history of veterinary medicine and One Health, multispecies studies.
