Research interests

My current research as a physician researcher is focused on Patient Safety and Epidemiology in Pediatric Nephrology.  

The epidemiological research includes a intensive collobaration with the European Registry for Pediatric Nephrology (ESPN/ERA-EDTA: chairman Jerome Harambat; Amsterdam/Bordeaux). Main research questions are quality of care in end stage kidney disease and renal replacement therapy (e.g. vascular access in hemodialysis, transplantation in small children). 

Parallel to epidemiological research we established a new research group focusing on Patient Safety in Organ Replacement and Transplantation (PaSi-PoeT). Until now three PhD students (Axana Hellmann, Lukas Kaltenegger and Fabian Eibensteiner) and 2 diploma students (Matthias Geist and Christopher Mandler) are involved. 

My laboratory research focused on an animal model of peritoneal dialysis (PD) using novel therapeutic interventions and on translational studies (first-in-man trial of novel therapeutic interventions).
