Research interests

My main research focus is to assess a variety of knowledge gaps of emergency medicine, critical care and intensive care, deriving from daily clinical work. I contribute to international guideline processes on cardiopulmonary resuscitation (via ILCOR and the ERC), and promote implementing new ideas into CPR education and implementation. Moreover, my working group focuses on both cardioselective betablockers on the one-, and endothelial dysfunction in acute illness on the other hand. So far, the most important findings of our research include additional information on prognosticators during and after CPR, the introduction of feasible BLS-courses for refugees, the assessment of prognostic factors in COVID-19 patients, and the assessment of endothelial dysfunction and arterial stiffness in various subgroups of critical care patients.
