Nr29 Brain Research, Keynumber: 479/25

With around 6.500 employees and 8.600 students, the Medical University of Vienna is one of the largest top-level biomedical research and teaching institutions in Europe. The Department of Neurophysiology of the Center for Brain Research is looking for a full-time (40 hours per week) Postdoc position (m/f/x) (from November 3rd, 2025). This is a contract for a duration of 3 years with a possible extension.

 

Your Tasks

  • Our overarching goal is to understand the neural mechanisms of cognitive functions, focusing on learning, attention and decision making. We investigate the contribution of subcortical networks, and study data from both mice and human patients to better understand normal cognition as well as the pathomechanisms of neurodegenerative dementias, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.
  • The successful candidate will collect electrophysiology and imaging data and analyze neuronal activity and behavior to better understand how neural circuits control behavioral performance. Applicants should have a proven track record and an independent working style.

Your Profile

  • The successful candidate should have a PhD and should have a strong scientific background in electrophysiology and fiber photometry or Ca2+ imaging, data analysis and neuronal circuits.

Requirement

  • PhD in neuroscience, computer science or a related field
  • High motivation for explorative research
  • Experience in neurophysiology (electrophysiology and imaging) and data analysis
  • Proven track record with high quality publications

The minimum monthly salary for this position (Uni-KV, VerwGr. B1b) is currently Euro 4.932, -- gross (14x per year) on a full-time basis and may be increased by taking into account relevant previous experience and other salary components related to the specificities of the job.
