Research interests

The main focus of this laboratory is to explore the possibilities and limits of bionic reconstruction and has at its core interest the reconstruction and rehabilitation of patients with impaired extremity function. This goal is accomplished with a wide variety of surgical techniques of neuromuscular reconstruction alone or in combination with complex mechatronic devices. The various research projects focus on all aspects of reconstructive surgery, both from a clinical but also from a basic research perspective. This work has precipitated in different textbook chapters and is being published both in top journals in the field but also larger audience periodicals such as The Lancet and Science Translational Medicine and various Nature Group Periodicals.

Techniques, methods & infrastructure

We employ various animal models with the purpose of neuromuscular research. (Sprague-Dawley Rats, New Zealand White Rabbit, Goats, Minipigs) Techniques, such as force measurements, neural stimulation, retrograde neural tracing, histomorphometry, immunohistochemistry and solid platform in laboratory based research is established in our lab. We entertain lab space on the research space 8H, 1Q and the central research facility at Anna Spiegel.
