Number of IKVs to be offered: 40
In 2026, 40 internal career agreements (IKV) will be awarded to the Medical University of Vienna employees. 10 IKV are earmarked for teaching (IKV Teaching) and/or IKV Clinical Education & Medical Training, and 30 for research (IKV Research). You must decide and apply exclusively to one of the three models (IKV Research, IKV Teaching, IKV Clinical Education & Medical Training). All academic/scientific staff who meet the requirements (see below) can apply for an internal career agreement.
The criteria, selection procedure and content of the IKV are based on the document: "Internes Karrieremodell für das wissenschaftliche Universitätspersonal 2026". When applying for an IKV, please note the specific requirements depending on each career model:
General requirements for an application (excerpt):
- Holder of a position in the global budget (‘Globalbudget’, no substitute)
- Completed doctoral studies (PhD, Dr. scient. med. or equivalent; at MedUni Vienna: Graduates of the former doctoral programme UN201 must have a comparable qualification in research)
- Relevant scientific publication activity and teaching experience – according to the „Internes Karrieremodell für das wissenschaftliche Personal der MedUni Wien 2026“
- Willingness to complete an external stay, preferably abroad, for research and/or teaching purposes for at least six months (unless already completed)

- You will receive confirmation of receipt of your documents. Only applications with complete and correctly formatted documents will be considered for the IKV award.

Bei Abschluss der internen Karrierevereinbarung erfolgt einheitlich eine Bezahlung mit überkollektivvertraglichem Entgelt analog zur Verwendungsgruppe A2 (Einstufung in B1, nicht aufsaugbare Überzahlung entsprechend § 49 Abs. 2 erster Satz KollV zuzüglich der Zulage gemäß § 68 Abs. 2 des Kollektivvertrages sowie der der KA-AZG-Zulage gemäß Verpflichtungserklärung). Dieses Entgelt gebührt einheitlich für alle wissenschaftlichen Mitarbeiter:innen, mit denen eine IKV abgeschlossen wird, unabhängig von einer ärztlichen Verwendung und der Zuordnung zum klinischen oder vorklinischen Bereich. Werden die Entwicklungsziele entsprechend dieser Vereinbarung nach dem Ablauf von drei Jahren erreicht, wird ein befristetes Arbeitsverhältnis in ein unbefristetes umgewandelt und es erfolgt einheitlich eine Bezahlung mit überkollektivvertraglichem Entgelt analog zur Verwendungsgruppe A2 (Einstufung in B1, nicht aufsaugbare Überzahlung entsprechend § 49 Abs. 2 lit. a und b KollV zuzüglich der Zulage gemäß § 68 Abs. 2 des Kollektivvertrages sowie der der KA-AZG-Zulage gemäß Verpflichtungserklärung). Ist hingegen ein Erreichen der Entwicklungsziele innerhalb der laufenden befristeten Anstellung nicht mehr möglich, wird bereits mit dem Abschluss der internen Karrierevereinbarung ein Arbeitsverhältnis auf unbestimmte Zeit abgeschlossen, und bei Erreichen der Entwicklungsziele erfolgt eine Bezahlung mit überkollektivvertraglichem Entgelt analog zur Verwendungsgruppe A2 (Einstufung in B1, nicht aufsaugbare Überzahlung entsprechend § 49 Abs. 2 lit. a und b KollV zuzüglich der Zulage gemäß § 68 Abs. 2 des Kollektivvertrages sowie der der KA-AZG-Zulage gemäß Verpflichtungserklärung). Werden die Entwicklungsziele hingegen nicht erreicht, endet ein befristetes Arbeitsverhältnis mit Ablauf der Befristung, ein bereits bestehendes unbefristetes Arbeitsverhältnis kann durch die Universität grundsätzlich gekündigt werden, jedenfalls fällt die Überzahlung weg.
